The structure of the perforated metal façade, specially designed and individually manufactured by the architects, is reminiscent of ore veins and rock layers – and thus establishes the context of the former ore extraction on the site of the Friedrichhütte.
“Depending on the incidence of light, the shimmering silver to gold Duraflon® colour is based on the local rock pyrite and generates new impressions depending on the weather.””
The perforation in the façade, which is barely visible from the outside, allows natural light to enter through the 200 sqm of glazing behind it. Seen from the inside, the seemingly closed façade appears like a light curtain, against the natural backdrop and the small town of Herdorf.
